The Content Creator’s Triangle: Finding Boundaries for a Consistent Product

When it comes to creating content, there are a lot of things to think about. What should I talk about? What does my audience want to hear? How can I keep my content interesting and fresh? These are all important questions that need to be answered if you want to be successful as a content creator.

Let’s talk about what I call the Content Creator’s Triangle. This triangle is made up of three boundaries that every content creator needs to pay attention to:

  1. What your audience wants out of listening to you,
  2. What you want from your audience
  3. The passion that you have for the topic.

Let’s explore each of these boundaries in more detail!

What is the Content Creator’s Triangle and what are its boundaries?

The Content Creator’s Triangle is a tool that content creators can use to find boundaries for a consistent product. The three boundaries are: what your audience wants from you, what you want from your audience, and the passion that you have for the topic. Having these boundaries will help you create content that is both interesting and relevant to your audience.

When it comes to creating content, it’s important to keep these boundaries in mind. If you don’t, you run the risk of creating content that is either too broad or too narrow. For example, if you’re not clear on what your audience wants from you, you might end up creating content that doesn’t serve their needs.

On the other hand, if you’re not clear on what you want from your audience, you might end up creating content that doesn’t deliver on the reason you’re podcasting in the first place. It’s important to find a balance between these two extremes.

The third boundary, the passion that you have for the topic, is also important. If you’re not passionate about the topic, it will be difficult to create content that is interesting and engaging. However, if you’re too passionate about the topic, you might end up creating content that is biased or one-sided.

What does your audience want out of listening to you?

This is a question that you should ask yourself before you start creating content. What does your audience want to get out of listening to you? Are they looking for information? Entertainment? Education? Inspiration?

It’s important to know the answer to this question because it will help you create content that is relevant and interesting to them. In order to know this answer you need to know your audience. Who are they? What do they like? What do they dislike?

The best way to find out is to ask them! You can do this through surveys, social media, or even just by talking to them in person. Once you know what your audience wants, you can start creating content that meets their needs.

You can also decide who your audience is by creating an audience statement. The Audience Statement that I use for my podcast is: “My audience are _______ (plural known) who like ________ (Subject) and want ______ (Problem they are trying to solve).”

When you answer that question you can start to understand what your audience wants from you and how you can serve them. Whenever you go to create your content you can ask yourself “Does this content serve my audience?”.

What do you want from your audience?

Look if you’ve ever created content of any kind then you know that it takes a lot of time, energy, and effort. So it’s important to ask yourself what you want from your audience in return for all of that time, energy, and effort.

Now that you know who your audience is based on your audience statement it’s time to get real with yourself and ask what you want from them.

This is your chance to be completely honest with yourself. What do you want from your audience? Money? Fame? Power?

The answer to this question will help determine the type of content you create and how you market it. For example, if you’re looking for fame then you might create content that is more controversial or outrageous.

If you’re looking for money then you might create content that is more sales-oriented. And if you’re looking for power then you might create content that is more thought-provoking and informative.

No matter what you want from your audience, it’s important to be honest with yourself about it. Once you know what you want you to have 2 questions to ask yourself

  1. Is this the right audience to be asking?
  2. Am I making the right content for this audience?

You need to make sure that your audience is able to give you what you want. For example, if you’re looking for money then you need to make sure that your audience has the disposable income to support you.

If you’re looking for fame then you need to make sure that your audience is the kind of people who are going to share your content and help you get more exposure.

And if you’re looking for power then you need to make sure that your audience is the kind of people who are going to be influenced by what you have to say.

Whatever it is that you want from your audience, make sure that it is clear in your mind before you start creating content. That way, you can create content that is designed to get the results that you want.

If your goal is to build your newsletter with your content then make sure that you include a call-to-action (CTA) at the end of each piece of content to subscribe. If your goal is to get your audience to take action on something then make sure that you include a CTA throughout your content to do just that.

The most important thing is to be clear on what you want from your audience before you start creating content. That way, you can make sure that your content is designed to achieve the results that you want.

Where is your Passion for this subject?

The last boundary is passion. Passion is important because if you’re not passionate about the topic then it will be difficult to create content that is interesting and engaging.

When you’re passionate about a topic, it shows in your content. Passionate content is usually more interesting and engaging than content that is created without passion.

Ask yourself, why are you creating this content? What is your passion for this subject? If you can’t answer these questions then it might be time to look for a new angle.

Creating content without passion is possible but it’s even harder than it sounds. It’s important to be honest with yourself about your passion for the subject before you start creating content.

How can you keep your content interesting and fresh?

So if this is all so formulaic, then how can you keep your content interesting and fresh?

The answer is simple: by being yourself. Be authentic in your content and let your personality shine through. Be vulnerable and share your own experiences. Be real with your audience and they will appreciate it.

Content that is created with passion and authenticity will always be more interesting than content that is created without it. So be yourself and let your content reflect that.

Even if you are following all of the advice here, there will still be times when you struggle to create content. That’s normal and it’s okay.

When you are feeling stuck, take a break and come back to it later. Sometimes, all you need is a fresh perspective.

If you find that you’re struggling to create content on a regular basis, then it might be time to reassess your goals. Make sure that you are clear on what you want from your audience and why you are creating content. Goals can change over time, the audience that you have versus the audience that you think you have can also change.

It’s important to be flexible and adaptable in your content creation. The most important thing is to keep creating content that you are proud of.

So if you feel like you’re stuck then you’re not alone. Take a step back, reassess your goals, and keep moving forward.

Final thoughts on the Content Creator’s Triangle

Creating consistent content is a process and it takes time to find your groove. But if you keep at it then eventually you will find a way to produce content that you’re proud of on a regular basis.

Once you find this voice then it becomes much easier to produce content on a regular basis. The trick is to find what works for you and then stick with it.

The Content Creator’s Triangle is a helpful tool to keep in mind when you’re creating content. But at the end of the day, the most important thing is to be yourself and let your personality shine through.
